A circle of people who care about Wadi Rum
Friends of Nabatean is a small community of people who follow the research, receive field updates, and offer support — with time, attention, or resources — to keep the work moving.
What you stand inside when you become a Friend
Friends of Nabatean is not a newsletter club. It is a support circle around a real place — stones, wind, people, and work in Wadi Rum.
Stay close to the field
Receive simple updates from the Field Journal and Archive: new rocks, new reels, and new questions being asked in the valley.
Learn the research language
Follow ideas like Datacolic, Datatorical, cymatic anthropology, and the Division 1–10 path in clear, human language.
Offer your time
Friends can offer hours for reading, editing, translating, designing, helping with logistics, or hosting conversations about the work.
Support the center
Some Friends support with funding or introductions. Others support with presence and consistency. Both are needed.
Community, learning, and offering your time
You can join as a reader, as a helper, or as someone who offers your time at the center itself.
1. Learning Friend
You receive periodic updates from Wadi Rum: selected Field Journal days, rock stories, and Research notes explained in everyday language. Your role is to listen, learn, and keep the story of the valley alive in your own world.
2. Working Friend
You offer some of your time or skill. This could be editing texts, helping shape digital materials, supporting translations, or advising on education, ethics, or conservation.
3. Time-at-the-Center Friend
When possible, you visit Wadi Rum and offer your time at the center: helping with field days, documentation, organizing stones, or assisting with visitors who want to understand the work.
- Tell us what you are good at or enjoy doing.
- Tell us how much time you can realistically offer.
- Tell us if you can ever be on site in Wadi Rum.
We match this with the Field Journal, Archive work, and current needs. Even a few hours a month can make a difference.
Simple, slow, and honest communication
Friends of Nabatean is designed to move at the pace of real fieldwork, not at the speed of social media.
• You send a short message or email saying you want to become a Friend.
• We reply with a simple welcome and a few questions about you.
• You begin receiving occasional updates and invitations to help.
There are no complicated tiers, and there is no pressure to respond to everything. You stay in the circle as long as it is good for you and good for the work.
